Er Rashid continues hunger strike in New Delhi’s Tihar jail
New Delhi: President of Awami Ittehad Party in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir and a member of the Indian Parliament Engineer Rashid continued his hunger strike for the tenth day today.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Er Rashid, detained in New Delhi’s notorious Tihara Jail, has been on a hunger strike to protest his continued illegal detention and to keep himself away from the Parliament session.
His health deteriorated on Friday during the hunger strike, after which he was admitted to a hospital in New Delhi. He has been in prison under the black law Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) since 2019.
In a statement in Srinagar, AIP’s central spokesperson Inam-un-Nabi expressed deep concern over the deteriorating health of the party chief and said that he is continuing his hunger strike in Ram Manohar Lohia hospital.
Meanwhile, the AIP during a meeting in Jammu urged the Indian judiciary to ensure justice and provision of all basic facilities to Er Rashid.
The meeting expressed grave concern over the deteriorating health of the party chief and said subjecting an elected MP to injustice is a serious violation of democratic principles.
