No action taken on custodial killing of Makhan Din in Kathua: Mehbooba Mufti

Srinagar: The President of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Mehbooba Mufti, has stated that several weeks have passed since the custodial killing of Makhan Din in Kathua, but no action has been taken yet.

According to Kashmir Media Service, in a post on the social media platform X, Mehbooba Mufti urged the Director General of Police (DGP) to ensure justice for the family of Makhan Din and to take steps to prevent such tragic incidents in the future. She stated that no judicial inquiry or any order for assistance or compensation for the grieving family had been issued so far.

Mufti emphasized that the most important issue was that the SHO of Billawar, who coerced the victim into suicide, was still free. She further stated that the problem doesn’t end here, as the same officer arrests many innocent individuals under false charges of militancy. Unless action is taken, such tragic outcomes will continue to occur.

It is pertinent to mention that Makhan Din, a resident of Billawar, Kathua was killed in police custody after being brutally tortured on 6 February.
