Muslim man lynched by Hindutva mob for resisting Holi colors in Uttar Pradesh
Lucknow: A 48-year-old Muslim man was brutally beaten to death by a Hindutva mob after he resisted having colours thrown on him during Holi in BJP-led Uttar Pradesh state of India.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the deceased has been identified as Sharif, a resident of Qasim Nagar, Unnao. He had been working as a driver in Saudi Arabia and had returned home two months ago.
Eyewitnesses stated that Sharif was heading to the mosque from his ancestral home, when a Hindutva group celebrating Holi came across and threw colours on him. The act was repeated leading to a heated argument that quickly escalated into a physical attack.
The Hindutva group assaulted Sharif and he died on the spot. The incident has sparked tensions in the area, leading to a heavy police presence, including Rapid Response Teams from multiple stations. Residents took to the streets, demanding the immediate arrest of those responsible.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, a Muslim youth identified as Shamim was waylaid by a group of bike-borne Holi revellers and thrashed mercilessly after ascertaining his religious identity. The incident occurred in the Baghpat city of Uttar Pradesh.
The victim was on his way to his home when Hindu goons on a motorbike stopped him in the and after asking him his name started beating him mercilessly. Shamim was seriously injured as the culprits attacked him with bricks and sticks. As some locals arrived at the scene, the assaulters fled from the spot leaving Shamim badly bruised.
