2 lakh trucks goes on indefinite strike in Maharashtra against e-challan
Mumbai: The protest against e-challan and harassment has intensified in the Indian state of Maharashtra and around 1.5 to 2 lakh trucks and other goods vehicles have gone on an indefinite strike across the state.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the strike, which has been going on since Tuesday and Wednesday night, is being held against e-challan and harassment.
Transporters say the strictness imposed in the name of e-challan has made their daily work unbearable and unnecessary fines are being collected from transporters.
Uday Barge, convener of the action committee leading the protest, said 1.5 to 2 lakh trucks have joined the strike in different cities of Maharashtra. He said, vehicles carrying essential commodities like milk, vegetables and medicines, are not part of the strike so that there is no disruption in the provision of basic necessities to the people.
The effects of the strike are being felt in the capital Mumbai and other industrial cities.
Transporters say that the strike will continue unless their demands are seriously considered.
