Don’t visit Muslim majority Kashmir: West Bengal BJP leader
Kolkata: Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly and BJP state president, Suvendu Adhikari, has sparked controversy by urging Bengalis not to visit ‘Muslim-majority areas’ in Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Adhikari during a public interaction said that “Don’t go to Muslim-majority areas.” “If you want to visit Jammu & Kashmir, go to Jammu. Otherwise, go to Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha—there are plenty of places to travel.”
The BJP leader’s comments have been widely criticized. Trinamool Congress (TMC) in a post on X’ stated, “It is a disgraceful, calculated act of communal provocation. This is the very same BJP that wants ‘secular’ erased from the Constitution. Such statements have no place in India. We will not let BJP burn bridges between Indians. Not in Kashmir. Not in Bengal. Not anywhere.”
Meanwhile, Provincial President of Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Advocate Rattan Lal Gupta in a press statement has strongly condemned the provocative and communally charged remarks, terming them as an extension of the BJP’s deeply divisive and dangerous politics.
He stated that Adhikari’s appeal to Bengalis not to visit Muslim-majority areas of Jammu and Kashmir, particularly Kashmir Valley, is not only appalling but also reflects the BJP’s persistent agenda of sowing communal discord.
