APHC-AJK terms OIC honour for Shamim Shawl a recognition of Kashmiris’ struggle

Islamabad: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) chapter has welcomed the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) for conferring the prestigious “Shield of Honour” on prominent Kashmiri Hurriyat leader and human rights activist Ms. Shamim Shawl in recognition of her remarkable services in the field of human rights.
According to Kashmir Media Service, a graceful ceremony was held in Islamabad under the auspices of APHC-AJK, with Convener Ghulam Muhammad Safi in the chair. The event was attended by Hurriyat leaders, media representatives, and people from various walks of life.
Participants lauded Shamim Shawl’s tireless efforts in advocating for human rights, women’s rights, and for being a strong voice for the oppressed people of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) at international forums. They praised her for exposing Indian atrocities and said the honour bestowed upon her is a source of pride for the entire Kashmiri nation and a sign of growing global recognition of the Kashmiri people’s just struggle.
While expressing their special thanks to the OIC, they said this gesture would not only boost the morale of the Kashmiris but also help awaken the global conscience. They appealed to the OIC and the international community to take serious notice of the grave and systematic human rights violations in IIOJK, the demographic engineering plans, arbitrary arrests of Kashmiri youth, and to pressurize India for the immediate release of political prisoners and revocation of all draconian laws imposed in the occupied territory.
Hurriyat leaders urged the OIC to intensify efforts at the UN and global platforms for the resolution of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with UN resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people, to ensure lasting peace and security in the region, warning that its non-resolution continues to pose a threat of nuclear conflict in South Asia. They also reaffirmed the Kashmiris’ unwavering resolve to continue their legitimate struggle for the right to self-determination till its logical conclusion, regardless of the sacrifices.
In addition to Shamim Shawl, senior Hurriyat leaders including Muhammad Farooq Rehmani, Mehmood Ahmad Saghar, Syed Yousuf Naseem, Advocate Parvez Ahmad Shah, Sheikh Abdul Mateen, Raja Shaheen, Chaudhry Shaheen, Syed Ijaz Rehmani, Haji Muhammad Sultan, Zahid Safi, Engineer Mushtaq Mehmood, Mian Muzaffar, Adeel Mushtaq, Syed Gulshan, Muhammad Ashraf Dar, Zahid Mujtaba, Manzoor Dar, Muhammad Shafi Dar, Abdul Majeed Lone, Abdul Majeed Mir, Shaukat Butt, Sheikh Abdul Majid, Raees Mir, Maqsood Muntazir, Jahangir Qureshi, and Mushtaq Ahmad Butt attended the ceremony.
