Rehmani expresses concern over deteriorating health of Shabbir Shah, others in Tihar jail

Islamabad: Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir People’s Freedom League and senior leader of All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) chapter Muhammad Farooq Rehmani has expressed grave concern over the deteriorating health of illegally detained senior APHC leader Shabbir Ahmad Shah and other senior political leaders languishing in New Delhi’s Tihar jail

According to Kashmir Media Service, Muhammad Farooq Rehmani in a statement issued in Srinagar said alarming reports of treatment of the Kashmiri detainees in the Tihar and other jails of India have disturbed their families, parents and children, who due to long distance and harsh attitude of the authorities couldn’t meet them.

He stated that the family of Shabbir Shah had complained of multiple ailments to him and regretted that the family was not taken into confidence about the surgical process of the incarcerated leader.

Farooq Rehmani demanded that an independent human rights commission be sent to take on spot assessment of the health issues being faced by the Kashmiri political prisoners in the Indian jails.

He said simultaneously the number of Kashmiri prisoners has increased as large-scale arrests are being carried out daily in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir and hundreds of youth have been languishing in jails for the last couple of decades. Besides, youth are killed in fake encounters by any mysterious military operation, he lamented.

The suppressed political condition, he regretted, is due to the world apathy towards the tragic dispute of Jammu and Kashmir. “But, it will never die, and will anytime make the controlled boundaries risky and irrelevant. Therefore, before that the powers at the helm of affairs should come forward and resolve the Kashmir dispute to the satisfaction of the people of the disputed territory,” he maintained.
