India suspends postal services to USA amid tariff row

New Delhi: The Indian government has temporarily suspended booking of all postal articles to the United States following Washington’s decision to withdraw duty-free exemption for goods up to 800 US dollars.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Indian Ministry of Communications said, the suspension, effective August 25, covers all consignments except letters, documents, and gift items valued up to 100 dollars. The step follows the US administration’s Executive Order 14324, under which postal shipments will be subject to customs duties.

The Department of Posts said US-bound air carriers have refused to accept consignments citing lack of clarity on duty collection and remittance procedures. Customers affected by the suspension have been advised to seek refunds, while authorities expressed regret over the inconvenience and assured that efforts were being made to restore full services soon.
