AIP to move court for Er Rashid’s participation in Vice Presidential election

Srinagar: The Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) has said that it will seek court permission to enable its president and Baramulla MP, Er Rashid, to participate in the Vice Presidential election scheduled for September 9.

According to Kashmir Media Service, AIP’s Chief Spokesperson Inam Un Nabi, currently in New Delhi, said the party has directed its legal counsel to apply before the competent court, arguing that it is both Rashid’s “democratic right and constitutional duty” as a Member of Parliament to be part of the electoral process.

As part of preparations, Chairman of AIP’s Parliamentary Affairs Committee and MLA Sheikh Khursheed met Rashid’s counsel, Advocate Vikhyat Oberoi, in New Delhi to discuss the legal strategy and ensure the application is filed without delay.

Inam expressed hope that authorities would facilitate Rashid’s participation in the spirit of democracy and constitutional propriety.
