Farooq blames LG Manoj Sinha for Chenab region uprising over MLA’s arrest

Srinagar: National Conference President Farooq Abdullah has said that the Lieutenant Governor of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, is responsible for the volatile situation in Chenab region following the arrest of MLA Meraj Malik in Doda under the draconian Public Safety Act (PSA).

According to Kashmir Media Service, Farooq Abdullah, while speaking to reporters in Baramulla, said, “The law and order machinery is under the control of Manoj Sinha, and he shall be responsible for what is happening in the region.” He was responding to questions over widespread protests against Malik’s detention.

The National Conference chief said convening a special session of the Assembly on the issue was up to the Speaker to decide.

Meraj Malik, a sitting legislator from the Chenab Valley, was detained on Monday and shifted to Kathua jail under PSA. His arrest has sparked massive demonstrations in Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban districts, where people have condemned the authorities for silencing elected representatives and stifling democratic voices.

Political observers say the arrest of Malik and the subsequent uprising further highlight the suppression of political space in IIOJK under New Delhi’s rule.
