NIA seizes property of Kashmiri in Shopian under UAPA

Srinagar: India’s notorious National Investigation Agency (NIA) has seized the property of a Kashmiri resident in Shopian district of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

According to Kashmir Media Service, the seized property, including land and a partially constructed house, belongs to Tariq Ahmad Mir of Maldeera village. The seizure was made under the draconian Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) as part of what the NIA claimed an ongoing investigation.

NIA officials, with assistance from Indian paramilitary and police forces, pasted notices on the premises to mark the seizure. Authorities claim Mir provided logistical support to pro-freedom activists in IIOJK.

Since the Modi government’s illegal and unilateral abrogation of IIOJK’s special status in August 2019, hundreds of properties, including homes, land and businesses, have been confiscated on one pretext or other. The aim is to cripple Kashmiris economically and engineer demographic change in the territory by reallocating these assets to non-local Hindus.
