Indian troops launch fresh crackdown in Rajouri, Kupwara

Jammu: Indian troops have launched a massive cordon and search operation (CASO) in Rajouri district of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, further intensifying the climate of fear and repression across the territory.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the operation, jointly carried out by the Indian Army, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Special Operations Group (SOG), began late Tuesday evening and continued for the second consecutive day in the Beeranthub area under Kandi police station jurisdiction.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu Zone, B.S. Tutti, claimed that an exchange of fire had taken place in the area. Indian forces have launched extensive house-to-house searches, sealing all entry and exit points. The entire locality remains under siege as troops continue the operation under the cover of heavy deployment and surveillance drones.

Meanwhile, Indian forces are also conducting a separate cordon and search operation in Warsan area of Kupwara district. A senior police officer claimed that a cache of arms and ammunition was recovered during the searches — a routine claim often used to justify such widespread raids.

Local residents said the troops broke into several homes, harassing and intimidating families, including women and children. Human rights observers maintain that these operations — conducted under draconian laws like the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) — serve as collective punishment to crush dissent and suppress the Kashmiris’ demand for freedom.

Analysts say the fresh military operations in Rajouri and Kupwara underscore India’s deepening militarisation of the occupied territory, where over one million troops remain deployed. They note that such repeated crackdowns are part of the Modi regime’s broader campaign to project control through fear rather than addressing the political realities of the Kashmir dispute.
