MMA urges purchase of local poultry, meat in IIOJK

Srinagar: Muttahida Majlis Ulema, a joint platform of various political, social and religious organizations in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, has urged purchase of local poultry and meat.

According to Kashmir Media Service, a meeting of a committee formed by the Muttahida Majlis Ulema was held in Srinagar today under the chairmanship of Grand Mufti Nasirul Islam, to deliberate on the growing concerns regarding the quality, source and halal of slaughtered chickens and meat sold in the valley.

The meeting was attended by several renowned muftis and scholars, including Mufti Nazir Ahmad Qasmi, Mufti Abdul Rashid Mifthi, Maulana Shaukat Hussain King, Agha Muhammad Hussain, Mufti Muhammad Ali Akbar, Syed Muhammad Aslam Andrabi and Maulana Syed Rehman Shams.

The meeting expressed deep concern over the reports and complaints received regarding slaughtered chickens brought from outside the valley, which indicate that the slaughtered chickens imported from outside do not meet the Islamic halal principles.

The committee unanimously appealed to hotel and restaurant owners, meat vendors and all those involved in the hospitality and food sector to immediately stop buying, selling and supplying imported slaughtered poultry and meat from outside the territory and instead purchase these products locally to ensure compliance with Islamic dietary principles.

Grand Mufti Nasirul Islam said this decision has been taken on the basis of several credible complaints and reliable information, which prove that the halal requirements are not being met in imported poultry.

He said it is the religious responsibility and moral duty of all of us to use and serve only halal meat and poultry in the valley. The entire nation must act unitedly to fulfill this collective responsibility, he added.

The meeting appreciated the role of local authorities and relevant institutions in this regard and urged them to keep a close watch on the supply chain of poultry and meat to ensure adherence to halal standards.

It was clarified in the meeting that the detailed proposals that have been prepared in this regard will soon be publicized through the media.
