Talks with Indian govt to remain frozen until justice for Leh firing victims: Karbalai
Kargil: Senior Ladakhi leader Asgar Ali Karbalai has said that the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) and Leh Apex Body (LAB) have submitted key demands to the Indian government regarding the September 24 Leh firing incident, warning that dialogue with New Delhi will remain suspended until these demands are met.
According to Kashmir Media Service, speaking to media persons in Kargil, Karbalai, co-chairman of KDA, expressed grave concern over the unprecedented and tragic incident in which unarmed civilians were fired upon by Indian forces in Leh, resulting in the martyrdom of four persons and injuries to dozens. He said over 70 people have been detained, while renowned environmentalist and educationist Sonam Wangchuk has been arrested on “baseless charges” and shifted to Jodhpur—an act he termed deeply regrettable and alarming.
Karbalai said the KDA and LAB have called for a Judicial Inquiry Commission headed by a sitting Indian Supreme Court judge to ensure an impartial and transparent investigation into the September 24 incident.
“Until judicial proceedings commence, all detained civilians are released, and adequate compensation is provided to the families of the deceased and injured, there can be no resumption of dialogue with the Indian government,” he asserted.
