Elderly Dalit man humiliated by RSS worker in BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh, sparks outrage

Lucknow: An elderly Dalit man was subjected to horrific caste-based violence in Lucknow area of BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh state when an RSS worker forced him to lick ‘urine’ in a vile act of humiliation. This incident underscores the persistent caste discrimination and violence that Dalits continue to suffer in Modi’s India.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the victim, identified as Rampal Pasi, ailing and elderly, accidentally spilled water while drinking near Purani Bazar in the Sheetal Temple locality. The RSS worker accused him of urinating and, in an act of unspeakable cruelty, forced him to lick the spill.

Eyewitnesses said the elderly man was not only physically abused but was also targeted with casteist slurs and verbal assaults, durther compounding the degradation he endured.

Human rights defenders and Dalit groups have condemned the incident as a “brazen display of caste arrogance and feudal mentality.” They described the assault not merely as an act of physical violence but as an attempt to crush the dignity and spirit of an elderly Dalit man, reflecting a mindset deeply entrenched in hierarchical caste prejudice.

Calling the incident “a blot on humanity and an assault on the soul of the Constitution,” Bhim Army chief and Azad Samaj Party president Chandrashekhar Azad MP demanded immediate action from the Uttar Pradesh government.

“Power has been exerted on the body, and the poison of casteism on the soul,” Azad said, calling for the immediate arrest of the Hindutva man. “The accused must face the harshest punishment. The government must ensure Rampal Pasi’s safety and dignity,” Azad added.

Local residents said that the police had initially delayed registering the case and accused them of habitual inaction in caste-related crimes unless public outrage forces them to act.
