Amid onslaught on Kashmir’s professionals, NIA arrests another doctor in New Delhi
New Delhi: Continuing a troubling pattern of targeting Kashmir’s professional community, India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested another Kashmiri doctor in the Indian capital, New Delhi.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the NIA detained Dr. Bilal Naseer Malla, a resident of Baramulla, during a raid.
The agency stated that Dr. Bilal Naseer Malla was arrested in Delhi and alleged that he had been in close contact with Dr. Umar Nabi, who died in a blast near the Red Fort in Delhi on 10 November.
Over the past months, a series of arrests and investigations have raised concerns that the Indian authorities are using security‑related pretexts to cast a shadow over the educated class of Kashmir. Human‑rights groups and local observers say these actions appear designed to portray Kashmir’s doctors, engineers and other professionals as security threats, thereby undermining the territory’s intellectual reputation and feeding a broader narrative of hostility.
