
Bhubaneswar: A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) soldier committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle in Odisha state.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the deceased, identified as Gopinath Shabar, was serving at the 216th CRPF Battalion Camp in Sunabeda Sanctuary in Nuapada district. He hailed from Ghardhara village under Khariar block.
Shabar, who leaves behind his wife, a daughter, and a son, was found dead at the camp. The reason behind his drastic action remains unclear. Senior police officials visited the site to assess the situation, and an investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances of the incident.
“The investigation is underway, and we will clarify the reasons behind the incident once the probe is complete,” police said.
In a separate incident in Rajasthan, a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) head constable, identified as Prakash, killed his father, Rampal, with a pickaxe in Sathin village. Police said Prakash, posted in Jaipur, had returned home on leave when he began arguing with his father near their farm hut. In a fit of rage, he struck Rampal on the head, killing him on the spot.
Hearing the commotion, neighbours Baldev and Kan Singh rushed to intervene, but Prakash attacked them as well, injuring both. Kan Singh sustained serious injuries and was referred to Jodhpur for treatment. Police have registered cases of murder and attempted murder, handed the body to the family after postmortem, and arrested the accused for further investigation.
