Indian police officer injured in attack by armed men in Jammu

Jammu: A sub-inspector of Indian police was injured in an attack by armed men on the outskirts of Jammu city in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, last night.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the incident took place at Gurrah Morh at around 8:30 pm. Sub-inspector Nitin Khajuria, posted at Bakshi Nagar police station, was intercepted by four men travelling in a Thar vehicle.Police said the assailants attacked the officer with a sharp-edged weapon, causing injuries to him.

The incident occurred when Sub-Inspector Nitin Khajuria, posted at Bakshi Nagar Police Station, was on his way home on a Royal Enfield motorcycle, officials said. He was allegedly intercepted by six to seven persons travelling in a Thar vehicle after a dispute over a mobile phone. The attackers also brandished a pistol before fleeing the scene.

Bystanders rushed the injured police officer to Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu, where doctors said his condition was stable and he was out of danger.

While undergoing treatment, the officer identified two of the alleged assailants as Munna D and Rishab alias Kaua. The identities of four to five other attackers are yet to be ascertained.

Police have launched a manhunt in the area and registered a case in connection with the incident.
