Over 93% of India-Pakistan border fenced, Lok Sabha told
Modi govt admission refutes Delhi’s claims against Pakistan
New Delhi: The Modi government has officially confirmed that over 93% of the India-Pakistan international border and Line of Control have been physically fenced, a disclosure that observers say directly undermines New Delhi’s repeated claims blaming Pakistan for attacks such as Pulwama and Pahalgam in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the admission came through a written reply in the Lok Sabha by the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs to questions raised by Trinamool Congress MPs Jagdish Chandra Barma Basunia and Sharmila Sarkar.
The reply stated that fencing has been completed along 2,135.136 km of the total 2,289.66 km border (93.25%), with work ongoing on the remaining six percent. Indian Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai said the fencing is supplemented by advanced surveillance, drones, thermal imagers, night-vision devices, and radar systems, leaving little room for infiltration.
Observers noted that this admission casts serious doubt on New Delhi’s narrative of external involvement in attacks inside occupied Jammu and Kashmir, highlighting that the border was already largely secured.
The India-Pakistan border runs through Punjab, Rajasthan, and Gujarat, and includes the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir. Rai also mentioned progress on other borders, including Bangladesh and Myanmar, under India’s comprehensive integrated border management strategy.
