APHC-AJK condemns Bihar CM for pulling down Muslim woman’s hijab

Islamabad: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) chapter has strongly condemned the Chief Minister of Bihar, India, Nitish Kumar, for removing the veil of a Muslim woman, calling it a grave violation of international human rights standards.

According to Kashmir Media Service, APHC-AJK leader Syed Faiz Naqshbandi in a statement in Islamabad, denouncing the shameful act, said it amounts to an assault on the woman’s dignity, autonomy, and freedom of religion, and reflects the growing discrimination against Muslims and other minorities in India.

Syed Faiz Naqshbandi further said this pattern of abuse is mirrored in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir where Indian forces continue to commit serious human rights violations with impunity, including extrajudicial killings and arbitrary arrest.

Meanwhile, APHC-AJK Information Secretary Mushtaq Ahmed Butt, in his statement, strongly condemning the shameful incident, said this is not just an irresponsible act but a clear proof of the discriminatory thinking that has developed at the state level against minorities, especially Muslims, in India.

He said it is a very worrying that a person, holding a public office, does not hesitate to commit such a despicable and humiliating act in broad daylight, in the presence of the media and with complete brazenness. This act is clear proof that the powerful classes in India have started considering themselves above the law, morality and human values, he lamented.
