Women wearing hijab, burqa banned from entering jewellery shops in India
Patna: Discrimination against minorities, especially Muslims, during the Modi government’s Hindutva rule in India, has continued and now in the state of Bihar, the doors of jewellery shops have been closed to Muslim women wearing hijab and burqa.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the All India Jewellers and Gold Federation in Bihar has announced a ban on women, wearing hijab, burqa, niqab and masks, from entering jewellery shops.
Through this move, the federation has tried to make people who cover their faces suspicious by using security concerns as an excuse.
Ashok Kumar Verma, president of the federation’s Bihar branch, said if their faces are not visible, men or women will not be allowed to enter the shops.
Political observers said such decisions are a continuation of the BJP and RSS agenda of marginalizing Muslims economically, socially and religiously.
Mosques, madrasas and religious symbols are already being targeted by the Bharatiya Janata Party government in India, and now religious clothing has been banned in daily life as well.
It should be remembered that this is not the first incident. In December 2025, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar forcibly removed the hijab of a Muslim female doctor in public, which raised serious questions about the honour and dignity of Muslims across India. KMS—17A
