JKLF to observe 42nd martyrdom anniversary of Maqbool Butt with enthusiasm, devotion

Islamabad: The Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) has decided to observe the 42nd martyrdom anniversary of renowned Kashmiri liberation leader Muhammad Maqbool Butt with national enthusiasm, devotion and respect.

According to Kashmir Media Service, India had sent Muhammad Maqbool Butt to the gallows in New Delhi’s infamous Tihar jail on February 11, 1984 for his role in Kashmir freedom movement and buried his body in the premises of jail.

As per the decision, the month of February will be designated as “Maqbool Month” and during this period, all ceremonies held in and outside the occupied Jammu and Kashmir will highlight the struggle, sacrifice, thoughts and ideologies of the martyr and demand the return of his mortal remains from India.

According to a statement issued by the Central Information Office, the JKLF has appealed to the people of occupied Jammu and Kashmir to observe a general strike on February 11, while Kashmiris across the world, including Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, to hold protest demonstrations.

The JKLF acting chairman, Raja Haq Nawaz Khan, has directed his party officials and workers to pay tribute to Maqbool Butt, in solidarity at the national level to the extent possible.

The party spokesperson, Raja Haq Nawaz Khan appealed to the Kashmiris living abroad to hold full protests against the illegal occupation of Jammu and Kashmir and Indian tyranny.

The party leadership in Azad Kashmir Gilgit-Baltistan zone will participate fully in all the events held at the tehsil and district levels.

The spokesperson said in the protest demonstrations of Kashmiris in front of Indian embassies in Britain, Europe and America, the demand will be reiterated from the Indian government to return the bodies of Maqbool Butt Shaheed and Afzal Guru Shaheed, who have gradually attained the great status of martyrdom since February 11, 1984 and February 9, 2013 and are buried in the premises of Delhi’s Tihar Jail.

The JKLF central committee in its statement, strongly condemned the conviction of Aasiya Andrabi, Chairperson of Dukhtar Millat and her two associates, Fehmida Sufi and Naheeda Nasreen, in cases filed on political vendetta.

Meanwhile, the JKLF spokesperson paid tribute to the martyrs of the Gaw Kadal tragedy at the hands of Indian forces on January 21, 1990, and expressed their determination to complete their unfinished mission.

The spokesperson prayed for the forgiveness of all the martyrs of Jammu and Kashmir, including the Gaw Kadal martyrs.
