India signs Rs 2,182 crore missile deal with Russia amid US sanctions

New Delhi: India has signed a contract with Russia to procure surface-to-air missiles worth Rs 2,182 crore, despite US sanctions on Moscow.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the deal aims to boost the Indian Navy’s air defense capabilities.

Simultaneously, India has inked a separate contract with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for six ALH Mk-III helicopters for the Coast Guard, valued at Rs 2,901 crore.

The Shtil missile system can engage aerial targets up to 45 km away, enhancing the Navy’s rapid-reaction capabilities.

Interestingly, this deal comes amid US President Donald Trump’s warnings that countries maintaining trade ties with Russia would face severe sanctions.
