‘Meat-eating priest’ assaulted, expelled in UP

New Delhi: In a shocking case of violation of personal freedom in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, a priest was expelled from his temple duties and assaulted by a Hindutva mob after a photo of him eating non-vegetarian food went viral.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Prashant Giri, also known as Golu Pandit, was dragged out of the Baba Shri Bhuteshwar Dham Temple and beaten by a group of people, including Rahul Chandel, Manish Chaudhary, and Ajay Chauhan, who accused him of violating religious traditions.

The priest’s father, Santosh Giri, the chief priest of the temple, disowned his son, saying, “I am the mahant of the temple, not my son. As soon as I came to know that he had eaten non-vegetarian food, I expelled him from service at the temple.” Many has questioned the mob’s actions and the priest’s father’s decision.
