Kashmiris defy restrictions, take to streets after Friday prayers
Srinagar:In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), people in several areas today took to the streets to stage protests on Youm-e-Quds and Juma-tul-Vida, expressing solidarity with the oppressed people of Palestine and Iran, defying restrictions imposed by the Indian authorities.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the BJP-led Indian government-installed administration in IIOJK under Lieutenant Governor had enforced strict restrictions in an attempt to thwart protests. However, defying these curbs, people came out on the streets after Friday prayers in different areas of Srinagar, Budgam, Baramulla, Bandipora, Ganderbal, Pulwama and other districts, holding demonstrations to express solidarity with Palestinians and Iran.
The protesters shouted slogans condemning the US-Israel aggression against Iran, and voiced strong support for the people of Palestine.
The demonstrations coincided with Youm-e-Quds, observed by Muslims worldwide on the last Friday of Ramadan to express solidarity with Palestinians.
The administration also closed the historic Jamia Masjid Srinagar, barring worshippers from offering prayers at the grand mosque.
In this regard, processions were taken out at several places, including Budgam, Hassanabad Srinagar, Yagipura Magam, Chadora, Satsoo Kalan, Nowgam Sonawari, Sonapah Berwah, Anderkot Sambal, Chattargam, Sufipura Pahalgam and Vikhron Pulwama, in which a large number of people participated.
