Massive protest rallies in Leh, Kargil demanding Statehood, Sixth Schedule

Kargil: Massive protest rallies were taken out in Leh and Kargil districts of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir in support of their demands, including Statehood and Sixth Schedule for Ladakh.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the Leh Apex Body (LAB) and the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA), the two groups representing the Leh and Kargil districts of Ladakh, had announced the protest march to draw the authorities’ attention towards their demands – which include Statehood, inclusion under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution.

Leh witnessed a peaceful rally in support of Ladakh’s ongoing demands for the implementation of the 6th Schedule and Statehood. Led by the Leh Apex Body, thousands of people participated in the rally, which saw the presence of various religious leaders and stakeholders from different communities, reflecting unity among the people of Ladakh.

The rally began from Singay Namgyal Chowk and proceeded towards Leh Polo Ground.

Participants carried pamphlets and placards highlighting the demands for the 6th Schedule and statehood for Ladakh. The gathering remained peaceful as people from different religious and social groups joined together to express their support for the demands.

A complete strike is being observed in Kargil on a call given by KDA and Apex Body for Statehood and 6th Schedule to Ladakh region. A mega protest march, attended by thousands, was also taken out in Kargil as well. Drass sub division in Kargil also observed a complete strike.

For the last six years, the people of Ladakh have been deprived of democratic representation and constitutional safeguards. The voices from the mountains are growing louder for justice, rights, and restoration of democracy” KDA member Sajad Kargili posted on X.
