Indian judicial system condemned for its systematic criminalization of political dissent
Barcelona, Spain: Prominent Kashmiri leader and human rights activist Altaf Hussain Wani and President of Tehreek-e-Kashmir, Spain, Muhammad Shafiq Tabassum have strongly condemned the Indian judicial system for its systematic criminalization of political dissent.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Altaf Hussain Wani and Shafiq Tabassum were addressing a gathering in Barcelona hosted by Tehreek-e-Kashmir, Spain.
They specifically denounced the life imprisonment sentence handed down to Ms Aasiya Andrabi and her associates, noting that the convictions were based merely on their political views and their legitimate demands for rights as enshrined in United Nations resolutions regarding the Kashmir dispute.
The speakers expressed grave concern over the escalating violence perpetrated by Indian troops, highlighting widespread violations of fundamental human rights and international obligations. They drew particular attention to the misuse of anti-terrorism laws as a tool to suppress legitimate political expression and detain activists without due process.
Altaf Hussain Wani urged the Kashmiri community to intensify their efforts in apprising local communities and civil society organizations about the Kashmir cause. He emphasized the historic and humanitarian significance of the struggle, urging community members to serve as ambassadors for truth and justice in their host countries.
Muhammad Shafiq Tabassum reaffirmed Tehreek-e-Kashmir, Spain’s commitment to raising international awareness about the plight of Kashmiris and pledged to continue advocacy for a peaceful settlement of the dispute in accordance with UN resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
The event, presided over by Muhammad Shafiq Tabassum, President of Tehreek-e-Kashmir, Spain, brought together members of the Kashmiri diaspora and local civil society to discuss the deteriorating human rights situation in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
