Settler-colonial push continues: Properties of three more Kashmiris seized in IIOJK

Srinagar: Continuing its systematic settler-colonial campaign in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), New Delhi-imposed administration has seized immovable properties belonging to three more Kashmiris in Sopore area of Baramulla district.

According to Kashmir Media Service, acting on the order of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Indian police confiscated approximately 5 kanals and 16 marals at Nadihal, Sopore, in connection with a fake case registered at Police Station Panzalla under various sections of the draconian Egress and Internal Movement (Control) Ordinance (E&IMCO) Act.

The seized properties belong to Reyaz Ahmad Lone, (2 Kanals 16 Marlas), Aijaz Ahmad Lone (10 Marlas) and Mushtaq Ahmad Shah (2 kanals), all residents of Nadihal.

Authorities, in an attempt to provide legal cover to the action, claimed that the seizures were carried out in compliance with court directives. Police have declared all three as proclaimed offenders, accusing them of involvement in “activities prejudicial to the security and integrity of India”.

Since the abrogation of IIOJK’s special in August 2019, the BJP-led Indian government has significantly intensified its campaign of property seizures and evictions under various pretexts. Hundreds of properties, including residential houses, agricultural, business establishments, and offices of organizations, have been confiscated.

Kashmir watchers believe the ongoing actions are aimed at intimidating and economically weakening the Kashmiris, while facilitating demographic changes in the territory by reallocating seized properties to non-local Hindus.
