Silent protest in Srinagar calls for UN intervention to release Aasiya, others
Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, people staged a silent sit-in protest in Srinagar, defying strict surveillance and restrictions, to demand the release of detained Kashmiri women leader Aasiya Andrabi and her associates.
According to Kashmir Media Service, despite heightened monitoring, movement curbs, and the constant presence of Indian forces, the protesters gathered quietly last night, sending a powerful message of resistance against ongoing political repression. Participants carried placards urging the United Nations to intervene and ensure the immediate release of Aasiya Andrabi and other detainees languishing in Indian jails.
The demonstrators maintained complete silence during the sit-in, symbolizing both resilience and protest against the continued incarceration of Kashmiri leaders under draconian laws.
Observers said the protest reflects growing public concern over the plight of political prisoners and the denial of basic rights in the territory.
Political analysts noted that such peaceful yet defiant expressions of dissent, even under an atmosphere of fear and intimidation, highlight the deep-rooted frustration among Kashmiris. They said the spree of arbitrary detentions and suppression of civil liberties is further alienating the local population and drawing international attention to the worsening human rights situation.
The protesters appealed to the United Nations and global human rights organizations to take cognizance of the dispute and press India to release all political prisoners, including women leaders, who have been held for years without fair trial.
Despite relentless crackdowns, the people of Kashmir continue to raise their voice for justice, reaffirming their unwavering resolve to resist oppression through peaceful means.
