Four killed in clash between Naga insurgent groups in Manipur

Jammu: Four members of a Naga insurgent group were killed in a factional clash between rival groups in Manipur state of India.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the incident took place near Hongbei village under Kasom Khullen block in Kamjong district, along the India-Myanmar border.

Officials said that cadres belonging to the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN) Eastern Flank faction were allegedly ambushed by suspected members of another rival faction during their return from monitoring timber and other activities in the border area. During the attack, four out of six members were killed, while two others sustained injuries and managed to escape.

The deceased were identified as Major (Posthumous) Sochipem Phungshok, Sergeant Major (Posthumous) Zairay Vasah, Sergeant (Posthumous) Bahnle Ahlahpya, and Sergeant (Posthumous) Thansomi Washi.

In a statement, the group expressed grief over the killing of its members, claiming they were shot while performing their duties. It alleged that despite prior interaction between the groups, the attackers opened fire on orders from higher authorities.

Police officials reached the spot on Sunday morning and initiated an inquiry, while security agencies have launched further investigations into the incident.
