‘Outsiders enrolled’: TMC warns of BJP voter roll manipulation ahead of West Bengal polls
Kolkata: The All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) said that the BJP is attempting to manipulate electoral rolls in West Bengal through the mass submission of questionable voter registration forms.
According to Kashmir Media Service, seniorshared a video on social media showing workers handling and processing large volumes of Form 6 applications, used for enrolling new voters. He said that many of these applications were submitted on behalf of individuals with “no real connection” to the state.
“What we are witnessing is deeply concerning… a coordinated attempt to interfere with the democratic rights of the people of Bengal,” Banerjee said in a tweet on X, adding that the Election Commission of India (ECI) was “looking the other way.”
The TMC said reports from multiple districts point to suspicious bulk submissions of Form 6 applications.
In a strongly worded statement, the party said that “thousands of fraudulent Form 6 applications” are being used to enrol “outsiders with zero connection to Bengal,” questioning the legality of accepting such applications after final roll publication and terming it a “criminal conspiracy” to rig voter lists. The Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls were finalised on February 28, 2026, with supplementary updates still underway.
The TMC further said that the ECI’s inaction amounts to complicity, warning that such developments threaten the integrity of free and fair elections.
Echoing the concern, TMC Rajya Sabha MP Sagarika Ghose described the situation as “gravely troubling,” claiming large-scale enrolment of non-resident voters.
TMC spokesperson Sudip Raha said the BJP’s “game is crystal clear—dilute Bengal’s voice under the garb of routine enrolment,” adding that the ECI’s inaction makes it complicit in what he termed a “crime in broad daylight.”
Notably, Legislative Assembly elections are scheduled to be held in West Bengal in two phased on 23 and 29 April 2026.
