Hurriyat Conference will continue struggle until right to self-determination is achieved: Safi
Islamabad: All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) chapter Convener Ghulam Muhammad Safi has said that the Hurriyat Conference is continuing its peaceful, democratic and political struggle in the light of relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions and international legal and moral principles for achievement of the inalienable right to self-determination of the Kashmiri people.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Ghulam Muhammad Safi in a statement in Islamabad said Jammu and Kashmir is a long-pending and internationally recognized dispute in South Asia, for whose just and lasting solution, the United Nations has given the Kashmiri people the right to decide their political future through a free, impartial and fair plebiscite.
He said the Hurriyat Conference considers the achievement of this fundamental right as the centre and axis of its struggle and will continue its political, diplomatic and public efforts until this goal is achieved.
Ghulam Muhammad Safi clarified that the Hurriyat Conference considers the people of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan as a strong arm of the movement for self-determination, while the Islamic Republic of Pakistan as an important party and long-standing supporter of the right to self-determination of the Kashmiri people.
He said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir, whether they are living in occupied Jammu and Kashmir, living in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan or Kashmiri immigrants living in Pakistan and various countries of the world, are all faithful to this common cause and their unity is the real strength of the movement.
The APHC-AJK Convener expressed deep concern over the efforts to create differences between different sections of the people of the territory, especially the refugees of Jammu and Kashmir and the Ansar, and pit them against each other. He said all such efforts are actually tantamount to weakening the collective struggle of the Kashmiri people and strengthening the intentions of the enemy. He said in the current circumstances, unity, political vision and unity around a common goal are the most important needs of the hour.
He appealed to the Kashmiri people living in occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan and around the world to demonstrate complete solidarity on the fundamental point of right to self-determination and plebiscite, prioritize their national interests over all kinds of group, regional and temporal differences and always keep the distinction between friend and foe clear.
Convener Ghulam Muhammad Safi further said instead of dividing the people of the occupied territory on all such issues that are temporal or administrative in nature, the Hurriyat Conference considers it its primary responsibility to unite them on a common national agenda of right to self-determination.
He stressed that differences over assembly seats or other internal issues should not overshadow national unity, as the real destination and first priority of the Kashmiri people is to achieve the right to determine their own future in accordance with the UN resolutions.
He reiterated the resolve that the All Parties Hurriyat Conference will devote all its energies to the achievement of fundamental, democratic and political rights of the people of the Jammu and Kashmir, a just solution to the Kashmir dispute and the fulfillment of the collective aspirations of the Kashmiri people, and for this purpose, will continue to prioritize the promotion of national unity, political harmony and joint struggle at all levels.
