Sakina Itoo calls for AFSPA removal from IIOJK

Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, National Conference leader and minister for education and health Sakina Itoo has called for the removal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) from the territory.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Sakina Itoo in a statement in Srinagar said, “If they say that the situation has improved, I think the AFSPA should be removed from here first.”
Her remarks came a day after Indian Home Minister Amit Shah announced that AFSPA would be completely withdrawn from the Northeast barring one territory citing improved law and order.
On the demand for restoration of statehood, she said the cabinet has already passed a resolution which was sent to Delhi through the Lieutenant Governor.
“We have been trying for two years. Our Chief Minister has raised this demand many times. We are not asking for anything new – statehood was already there. We hope it will be returned,” she said.
