‘Life has become a hell’ as 19 property owners booked in Samba

Samba: Indian police have booked 19 property owners for not providing details of tenants, as life has become a hell for locals under increasing surveillance by Indian agencies.

According to Kashmir Media Service, FIRs were filed at Samba and Bari Brahmana police stations during a special verification drive to enforce mandatory tenant verification. Thirteen cases were registered at Bari Brahmana and six at Samba police station under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, a police spokesperson said.

The drive targeted both people staying as tenants and domestic helpers and house owners. District Magistrate Samba had ordered mandatory police verification of tenants, but officials said concerned house and land owners failed to comply, leading to legal action.

Senior Superintendent of Police Samba Anil kumar cautioned property owners to submit details of tenants and domestic helpers at the nearest police station.
