8th Muharram reminds of Imam Hussain’s fight against oppression: Masroor Abbas

Srinagar: All Parties Hurriyat Conference leader Masroor Abbas has said the 8th Muharram procession in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir is a reminder of Hazrat Imam Hussain’s struggle to fight oppression and protect the rights of the oppressed.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Masroor Abbas Ansari in a media interview in Srinagar on Wednesday said the procession, which traditionally begins from Abhigudar and ends at Dal Gate, is the biggest congregation in Srinagar and holds historical significance.
The rally had been banned for over three decades. “The purpose for which Imam Hussain (RA) went to Karbala was the success of humanity and society—to fight oppression and protect rights,” Masroor Abbas Ansari said.
He described the procession as carrying a message of “unity, peace, security, and humanity”.
Asserting that Imam Hussain’s appeal is universal, the APHC leader said, “Imam Hussain is not just a martyr for Shias or Muslims, but a martyr for all humanity. His message is for everyone.”
Masroor Abbas Ansari urged the administration to take a “bold step” by permitting the 10th Muharram Ashura rally through its traditional route to Zadibal. He said it would enable the exercise of “constitutional religious freedom in a peaceful and disciplined manner”.
