22-year-old stabbed to death in local train in Mumbai

Mumbai : A 22-year-old man was stabbed to death by a co-passenger on a Mumbai local train after an argument over keeping the doors open during rain, marking the second such fatal stabbing on the Western Railway this year.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the victim, identified as Mayank Lohar, was assaulted inside a first-class compartment of a Churchgate-Nallasopara fast local between Andheri and Borivali stations around 10:42 pm.

Officials said Lohar and the accused, Sachin Ramesh Suvarna, 30, clashed over the train doors amid monsoon rain. Suvarna, who works at Mumbai airport’s Sahar Cargo complex, allegedly pulled out a sharp weapon and stabbed Lohar in the abdomen and chest before jumping off at Borivali and fleeing.

Lohar was rushed to a civic hospital, where he was declared dead.

Railway officials said the weapon is yet to be recovered and interrogation is under way. In February, a 32-year-old lecturer was stabbed to death during an altercation at Malad station.
