‘Stop selling halal or leave’: Bajrang Dal threatens Muslims in Kolkata

Kolkata: The Hindutva group Bajrang Dal has threatened Muslim vendors selling meat, asking them to either stop their business or relocate immediately in BJP-ruled West Bengal.
According to Kashmir Media Service, a video that has surfaced on social media shows Bajrang Dal members issuing stern warnings in abusive and derogatory language to the Muslim business community in Jadavpur, a prominent suburban area of Kolkata.
The members of Bajrang Dal have threatened Muslim vendors selling meat, asking them to either stop their business or relocate immediately. “Why are you selling and slaughtering when a majority of Hindus reside here?” a Bajrang Dal member asks in the video. He further claimed that the “days of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) are over” and warned the vendors, “Stop selling halal.
Leave this place at the earliest.” He suggested they move to areas like Mallikpur, which he described as having a larger Muslim population.
The incident is another proof of sharp rise in hate crimes against the Muslim community in West Bengal following the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came in power in the state. At least 10 such incidents were reported in May alone.
