‘Shut your shop or leave’: Kolkata Muslim meat seller threatened by Hindutva men

Kolkata: A viral video from Kolkata’s Jadavpur area has sparked outrage after men claiming links with Bajrang Dal were seen harassing and threatening a Muslim meat seller.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the footage shows individuals identifying themselves with the Hindutva organisation questioning the trader about selling meat in an area they described as predominantly Hindu.
One man is heard demanding why meat was being cut in a Hindu locality and telling the shopkeeper to stop selling halal meat and shift his business to an area with a larger Muslim population.
The men warned the seller to either close his shop or leave the locality, subjecting him to verbal abuse while he carried out his lawful business.
The video has triggered widespread discussion on social media and among locals, with civil rights activists and community members condemning the intimidation of traders based on religion.
Several users have demanded an official investigation and action against those involved. Police have not issued a detailed statement and no arrests were reported at the time of filing. The incident has reignited concerns over communal intimidation and the safety of minority traders to operate their businesses without fear .
