Indian Army raises 5 Battle Groups along China border in clear war preparation

New Delhi: The Indian Army has formally begun raising five Integrated Battle Groups (IBGs) along the Line of Actual Control with China, in a clear sign of aggressive war preparation against its northern neighbour.

According to Indian military sources, each IBG will be headed by a Major General-rank officer and will be capable of launching strikes within 24 hours of receiving orders. The IBGs, an upgraded version of the controversial “Cold Start Doctrine”, will be stationed in Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh — both bordering China.

Each battle group will comprise around 5,000 troops integrating infantry, armour, artillery, engineers, air defence and logistics under a single commander. The formation is part of the Mountain Strike Corps and is expected to be fully raised by mid-2027.

Analysts see this development as India’s continued military build-up and aggressive posturing along the disputed border with China, further escalating tensions in the region.
