India’s hypocritical tantrum over Dhaka map exposes its Kashmir delusions

Islamabad : Political observers and commentators say that the Modi government is trying to bring Bangladesh under diplomatic pressure over a map shown during a seminar in Dhaka that reflects the ground situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

According to Kashmir Media Service, during a foreign policy seminar in Dhaka organized by the Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS), a keynote presentation by former Bangladesh High Commissioner to India, Tariq A. Karim, featured a regional map showing Kashmir outside of Indian territory.

Indian High Commission official Pooja Kumari Jha rushed in with objections, whining that Jammu and Kashmir is an “integral part” of India.

Observers say that this same India had maintained a suspicious silence a few months ago when the US also released a similar map. There was no urgent diplomatic protest, no media outcry and no ambassadors were summoned but when a sovereign neighboring country, namely Bangladesh, recognizes the facts, it suddenly becomes an urgent issue for India, they added.

They said this is yet another example of India’s traditional hypocrisy and deliberate policy of suppressing smaller neighbours.

Critics said India has no right to pressure Bangladesh or any sovereign country or dictate how disputed areas should be shown on a map.

Analysts say that Pakistan’s legitimate claim and legal position on Jammu and Kashmir cannot be eroded by New Delhi’s stubbornness. Occupied Jammu and Kashmir is a disputed territory and that is the reality.

The United Nations has never endorsed India’s unilateral actions, especially the illegal abrogation of Article 370. No major world power or international body has put its seal of approval on this blatant violation of international norms and the rights of Kashmiris.

The Kashmiri people themselves have repeatedly proven through their unparalleled sacrifices and resistance that they are not ready to accept India’s forced occupation.

Pakistan stands by the historical and legal status of Kashmir as per United Nations resolutions that call for a plebiscite—a promise that India has evaded for decades. India cannot change history through the use of force, constitutional maneuvers, or media propaganda.

Kashmir has never been a part of India and never will be. Maps, UN resolutions, sacrifices, and the aspirations of the people all contradict New Delhi’s colonial thinking.

The latest episode is actually an expression of India’s frustration that the world is no longer accepting its narrative. The Modi government preaches sovereignty to others, but it itself tramples on the right of Kashmiris to self-determination and cowers when neighboring countries refuse to do as it wishes.

Pakistan will continue to highlight the facts, the Kashmiri people will continue their resistance and India’s diplomatic aggression or attempts to change the maps cannot change the fact that Kashmir is a disputed territory whose future is yet to be determined and India’s occupation cannot last for long.

India should focus on its own internal failures instead of pressuring Dhaka because history cannot change its course according to Modi’s ego.
