Srinagar residents decry drinking water shortage

Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, residents of the HMT area on the outskirts of Srinagar have called for immediate restoration of drinking water supply, citing an acute shortage lasting nearly a month.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the locality, supplied through the Rangil Water Supply Scheme, has been receiving irregular and unreliable water, severely affecting daily life.

Despite repeated pleas, residents said there has been no improvement. The Welfare Committee, Novabad North Zone Srinagar, recently submitted a representation to the Chief Engineer, Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department, seeking intervention to restore regular supply and review the functioning of the Rangil scheme.

“We are finding it extremely difficult to manage even basic household chores. Families wait for hours while many arrange water from other localities,” a resident said. Another resident said the crisis has worsened during summer vacations, disrupting cooking, washing and sanitation.

The residents urged the PHE Department to take immediate corrective measures and ensure such crises do not recur.
