Mirwaiz condemns killing of civilian in Bhaderwah, demands probe

Killing triggers protests, internet shutdown across district

Srinagar: Senior APHC leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has expressed deep grief and anguish over the killing of a 30-year-old civilian, Arif Hussain, by SOG personnel in Bhaderwah, Indian illegally occupied Jammu.

According to Kashmir Media Service, in a statement posted on social media, Mirwaiz said he was “deeply disturbed and pained” by the news from Bhaderwah.

The killing led to forceful protests, which was followed by internet shutdown across the district.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved family in this tragedy that struck them and with his young and pregnant widow who joined the protests against the gruesome killing of her husband,” he said.

The APHC leader linked the incident to the recent killing of Rashid Ahmad Mughal in Ganderbal, saying such acts are “against all norms of human and civil rights and law” and “deepen fear and mistrust” among the people.

Mirwaiz called for immediate investigation into both incidents.

Protests erupted in Bhaderwah following Arif Hussain’s killing, and authorities subsequently imposed an internet shutdown in the district.
