Amid rising public support, Modi regime imposes fresh curbs on CJP march
New Delhi: India’s Modi government has imposed sweeping restrictions and deployed heavy forces across central New Delhi ahead of the Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) planned “Chalo Sansad” march, reflecting growing concerns over the movement’s rising popularity and its potential political impact.
According to Kashmir Media Service, thousands of supporters gathered at Jantar Mantar despite prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, while Delhi Police denied permission for the march towards Parliament and warned participants of legal action.
The CJP claimed that the Indian government had reached out to the party for the first time amid mounting public support for its protest movement, which has gained momentum following climate activist Sonam Wangchuk’s hunger strike and growing demands for accountability.
Political observers said the heavy deployment of police, restrictions on public assembly and the government’s reported attempt to initiate dialogue indicate growing unease within the BJP-led administration over the expanding support for the protest movement. They said New Delhi’s response reflects fears that the movement could evolve into a broader political challenge to the Modi government.
