Priyanka slams use of force against protesting students
New Delhi,: Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi has condemned the use of lathicharge and tear gas against students protesting at New Delhi’s Jantar Mantar against scandals in national-level exams and the Education Policy.
According to Kashmir Media Service, speaking to reporters outside Indian Parliament, Priyanka said, “You are beating them and teargassing them. Why is this being done? After all, they are our children. They are the future of the country. This Parliament belongs to them.”
She criticised the Modi government for refusing to discuss flaws in the Education Policy, saying, “We have been requesting a discussion. There are big problems in the Education Policy, but you are not willing to hold any discussion and, on the other hand, you are beating up children.”
Earlier, the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) held a “Sansad Chalo” protest on Parliament Street, demanding accountability over the NEET-UG paper leak case and the resignation of Indian Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Police resorted to lathicharge and tear gas to stop protesters from advancing towards Parliament House.
CJP spokespersons Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka later submitted their demands to Minister J.P. Nadda, who assured them of discussing the matter with the party leadership.
Delhi Police also dismissed social media reports claiming CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke was detained during the protest, saying the reports were “entirely false.”
