Mirwaiz lays foundation stone for expansion of Masjid Khulafa-e-Rashideen

Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, senior APHC leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has laid the foundation stone for the expansion and reconstruction of Masjid Khulafa-e-Rashideen in Srinagar and congratulated the local community on the initiative.

According to Kashmir Media Service, addressing the gathering, Mirwaiz said that a Masjid is not only a place of worship, but also a centre for the community to engage in discussions on their daily issues, societal, economic or religious. He said disputes among members of the locality can also be resolved at masjids through dialogue and addressing of mutual concerns among the disputing parties, rather than immediately resorting to courts where both time and money are expended.

Referring to the historic Jama Masjid Srinagar, Mirwaiz said its pulpit has for centuries remained connected with the concerns of the people. “Religious, social or political — must be discussed and addressed. Masjids cannot remain disconnected from the realities confronting its people,” he said. He said Muslims across occupied Jammu & Kashmir share a deep and historic bond with Jamia Masjid and the institution of Mirwaiz.

“As Mirwaiz, concerns of the people will continue to be raised from its pulpit,” he said. “Places of worship must be respected and protected,” he added. “Masajid must remain centres of worship, community engagement, consultation and reconciliation,” he said.
