PDP announces August 5 protests, reiterates demand for Article 370 restoration

Srinagar: The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced peaceful protests across Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir on August 5 and reaffirmed its commitment to the restoration of the territory’s constitutional status.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the resolution was adopted on Tuesday during the party’s 27th Foundation Day. It reiterated the PDP’s commitment to the vision of its founder, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, and his principles of “Peace with Dignity,” dialogue, reconciliation and inclusive governance.
The party resolved to continue its constitutional and democratic struggle for the restoration of Article 370, Article 35A and the constitutional guarantees that protected Jammu and Kashmir’s unique identity and autonomy. The PDP also demanded the immediate release of political prisoners and detainees, an end to the misuse of preventive detention laws, and protection of the democratic rights of the people.
As part of its campaign, the party will hold district-level and across the territory- peaceful protests on August 5 to reiterate the demand for restoration of IIOJK’s special status and to defend democratic and federal principles.
Other demands in the resolution include reopening of cross-Line of Control trade and travel routes, withdrawal of Indian forces from civilian areas, creation of separate divisional units for Pir Panjal and Chenab Valley, and a fair share of natural resources including transfer of at least two major hydroelectric projects or adequate compensation.
The PDP also called for a transparent, merit-based recruitment drive to fill over one lakh government vacancies, welcomed greater representation for women, and pledged to work for the safe return of Kashmiri Pandits and other displaced communities.
The party expressed solidarity with civilians affected by the conflict in Iran and reiterated its commitment to peaceful and democratic means.
