Farooq Abdullah urges India to restore IIOJK’s statehood, calls August 5 move a historic mistake
Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), National Conference (NC) President Farooq Abdullah has urged the BJP-led Indian government to immediately restore the territory’s statehood and revive the constitutional and democratic rights of its people.
According to Kashmir Media Service, in a statement issued in Srinagar, Farooq Abdullah described India’s August 5, 2019 decision to abrogate IIOJK’s special status and bifurcate the territory into two Union Territories as a “historic mistake”.
He said reducing a historic state to a Union Territory marked a dark chapter in India’s democratic history and dealt an unprecedented below to democratic principles.
Farooq Abdullah reaffirmed the National Conference’s commitment to securing the restoration of IIOJK’s statehood and the revival of the constitutional and democratic rights of its people. He expressed confidence that, with the continued support of the people, the party would ultimately achieve these objectives.
He said the NC would continue its struggle until the aspirations of the IIOJK people are fulfilled.
