Restrictions tightened, checkpoints, searches intensified across Srinagar, south Kashmir
Srinagar : Indian authorities have intensified restrictions across Srinagar and several parts of south Kashmir in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, subjecting residents to increased checkpoints, frisking and search operations.
According to Kashmir Media Service, additional checkpoints have been established at key entry and exit points of Srinagar, where Indian police and paramilitary personnel are conducting extensive vehicle searches, identity checks and frisking of commuters.
Surveillance has also been heightened around major roads, public installations and key intersections, while random checking drives have been launched at multiple locations, causing inconvenience to the civilian population.
In south Kashmir, particularly in Kulgam district, Indian forces have stepped up deployments and launched massive cordon-and-search operations in an attempt to trace those involved in the incident. Indian forces’ personnel have intensified area domination exercises in several localities, further tightening restrictions on the movement of residents.
Locals complained that they are routinely facing by sweeping crackdowns that subject the civilian population to harassment, prolonged checks and restrictions on movement. They maintained that the repeated imposition of crackdowns and intensified military operations has become a recurring feature of life in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, adversely affecting the daily lives of ordinary Kashmiris.
