Incident exposes growing threat to Muslim women’s safety in India
Pune: A Hindu man was caught secretly filming a Muslim woman and using Artificial Intelligence to generate fake obscene images of her aboard the Miraj–Pune Special Express, sparking outrage.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the incident reportedly took place on Monday night, August 3, in the general coach of the train travelling from Miraj to Pune. As per accounts shared on social media, the accused was seated opposite the woman and allegedly photographed her without consent. He then used an AI application on his mobile phone to create fabricated nude images.
The matter came to light after another passenger noticed and recorded the incident. Videos of the incident have since gone viral, triggering widespread anger and renewed concerns over the misuse of AI to target women, particularly from the Muslim community.
The victim’s mother has appealed for the incident to be made public to raise awareness about the growing misuse of AI technology to harass and humiliate women.
