BJP govt has nurtured separate goons for mob lynching, online abuse: Prashant Bhushan
New Delhi: Senior lawyer of India and social activist Prashant Bhushan has strongly criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), saying that two types of “goons” have emerged under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Prashant Bhushan in a post on X said that one group engages in mob violence, while the other spreads abuse, threats, and misinformation online.
He also referred to journalist Swati Chaturvedi’s book I am a Troll, saying that an organised online ecosystem operates in support of the Prime Minister. He questioned the government’s recent efforts to connect with Gen Z through social media, saying the outreach does not match what he described as a wider culture of online abuse.
According to Bhushan, political messaging aimed at young people should be accompanied by efforts to curb abusive behaviour and misinformation on digital platforms. He argued that accountability is essential for healthy public discourse.
His remarks have reignited debate on social media, with supporters backing his criticism while others rejected his allegations. The comments have added another layer to the ongoing political discussion around online behaviour, digital campaigns, and freedom of expression.
